Housing Need Amongst Northern Ireland Children Has Grown by Over a Third in Two Years
Figures from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive reveal the precarious housing conditions of thousands of NI childrenThe numbers of children in FDA homeless households has risen by a shocking 34.7% since March 2018, to a total of 15,318 – that is over fifteen thousand children growing up in families officially considered homeless by the state.
The number of children in families ‘undergoing housing stress’ also increased by over one third, to 18,659 children.
The number of children in households on the waiting list is now over 28,000, again more than a 33% increase over two years ago.
The figures, which were provided to PPR in response to a Freedom of Information request, came out before the Covid-19 health crisis.
