Non-profit community WiFi initiative NYC Mesh is one of a number of small but growing networks in New York City that helps digitally excluded households by installing ‘fixed wireless’ routers on residential buildings in disadvantaged areas. Around half of the city’s households that are living below the poverty line have no access to broadband.

NI’s Project Stratum, to deliver broadband to remote areas, has received another £25m.
