The NI Department of Health announced a new regional mental health crisis service, with the stated aim of reducing waiting times and reliance on A&E for acute care.

The Belfast News Letter reported that across both physical and mental health needs, nearly a fifth of the NI population was on a waiting list for a first time visit to a hospital consultant, with more than half waiting longer than a year.
